21 FEBRUARY 2015: LionsXII head coach Fandi Ahmad praised his players’ performances tonight after earning a deserved 2-2 draw against Perak FA.
The travelling LionsXII had to dig deep and come from behind after surrendering a one-goal lead.
Firdaus Kasman’s strike ensured his team a share of the spoils after Charles Souza and Woong Nam Kung both struck after Khairul Amri’s opener.
The draw means Fandi’s charges now have four points in the Malaysia Super League, three behind joint-leaders Felda United and Perak FA.
“I’m very proud of the boys’ performances,” Fandi said.
“We had a never-say-die attitude and we fought very hard. I thought we deserved better in the first half, and we had three [or] four chances that we could have scored.
“But Perak, it’s not easy to play against them. They played all the long balls because they had their big boys up front.
“I thought we deserved a point at least and most importantly we need to go back and work on our defensive duties during set pieces, because the last 3 goals we conceded including today are from set pieces.
“We made some mistakes but nevertheless a point is better than nothing, so congrats to our boys.”
Left-back Hafiz Sujad, who was replaced by Wahyudi Wahid midway through the second half, suffered an injury during the game. This brings the amount of injured players to six, but Fandi reckons that the LionsXII are able to overcome their problems.
“We will try and try again because it’s about teamwork and fighting for one another,” Fandi explained.
“We can’t change much because this is what we have. We will play our best players available [for the next game].”
