SINGAPORE, 12 FEBRUARY 2015: LionsXII coach Fandi Ahmad has expressed his wish to see a strong response from his team after they suffered their first defeat of the season last week.
The LionsXII will face Perak tomorrow in Perak Stadium, Ipoh, after a 2-0 defeat by Kelantan FA in their last game.
While Fandi believed that they deserved at least a point last weekend, he was keen to move on and focus on returning to winning ways against Perak.
“We were quite disappointed with the result – a draw would have been a fairer result – but the fighting spirit was good, we kept going and never gave up,” Fandi said.
“I’m sure they can do better, they need to be more aggressive.”
Given the number of injured players the squad has, Fandi will be boosted by the return of Sahil Suhaimi and Faris Ramli. The duo did not feature in the last game as they were away on international duty with Singapore Under-23s.
Fandi shared that the squad currently has seven players out injured, with Khairul Nizam and Sufian Anuar the latest to enter the treatment room.
Only sixteen outfield players are fully fit, but the LionsXII coach is confident his side will be able to cope against Perak if they work as a team.
“It’s good to have Sahil and Faris back, we have options now.
“At least we have cover this way. Sometimes you cannot rely on one or two players, but overall I’m very happy.
“Perak will pump long balls behind our defenders and they will keep running at you, so we’ve got to be aware of the space we give. We have to minimise the space, close them down early and play as a team,” he added.
