LionsXII head coach Fandi Ahmad has called on his side to give their fans a huge cheer in their last game of the season against Sime Darby at home at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday.
A win against Ismail Zakaria’s charges will see the LionsXII finish in the top five if results in Kuala Terengganu and Shah Alam go their way.
At the same time, Fandi is wary about the threat that Sime Darby possess even though the Giant Killers are already relegated from the Malaysian Super League.
“Football is a funny game, you cannot underestimate anybody,” Fandi told the official LionsXII website.
“We are professionals, we will put our heart and soul into the game to try to collect the three points.”
Fandi will also be keeping his fingers crossed that centre-back Madhu Mohana will be fit in time for the game on Saturday at Jalan Besar.
The LionsXII clearly missed the aerial prowess of the towering defender against Sarawak, as they conceded two goals from set-pieces that were scored with headers.
“We definitely missed him as he has been a strength for us at the back but we didn’t want to aggravate his injury,” said Fandi.
“Hopefully he can recover in time against Sime Darby so that we will not concede the goals like we did against Sarawak.”
Striker Khairul Amri who pulled a goal back for the LionsXII against Sarawak with a penalty, agreed with his coach and highlighted the importance of going into the Malaysia Cup on a good note.
“No matter what, we need a win and end the season a high note so that it will give us a boost for the Malaysia Cup,” said the 30-year-old.
“We need to win the game for the fans because it will be our last home game in the league for the season.”
