LionsXII head coach Fandi Ahmad was left disappointed by his team’s performance after watching them lose to Kedah FA at Darul Aman Stadium on Friday night in the Malaysia Cup.
Chidi Edeh scored a second-half brace for the Canaries in their 2-0 win as the hosts condemned the visitors to the first defeat of the tournament.
The defeat means LionsXII drop to second place on goal difference behind Kedah with seven points.
Fandi felt his team simply did not showed up in the game, which left him frustrated.
“I am very disappointed with our performance because Kedah looked more hungry and more eager to win today,” said Fandi.
“I am disappointed with the team because some of the players never turned up to play at all.
“They didn’t look themselves today and they looked like they were affected by the hostile crowd.
“Every footballer wants to play in this kind of atmosphere and in front of a capacity crowd, so the players should have played better instead of putting up this kind of poor display.”
In spite of the defeat, Fandi believes that there are some positives to be taken away as the LionsXII prepare for their next match against Johor Darul Ta’zim II (JDT II)
“The younger players plus some of the experienced ones worked their socks off today and it was satisfying to see that,” said the 53-year-old.
“We have to work hard and we cannot take things for granted anymore. Hopefully, after this break, on the 17th of October we can get our three points against JDT II at home.
“We need to put this result behind us and talk to those who under-performed here today to find out what happened today.”
