LionsXII drawn against FAM League side PB Melayu Kedah in second round of 2015 Malaysia FA Cup.
KUALA LUMPUR, 14 December 2014: The LionsXII have been handed a promising draw for the 2015 Malaysia FA Cup tournament, one that sees them skipping Malaysian Super League teams until the semi-final stage.
At the draw, which was conducted by the Football Association of Malaysia at the Blue Wave Hotel in Shah Alam, Fandi Ahmad’s men found themselves facing FAM League side PB Melayu Kedah in the second round of the tournament. The game will be held on either 6 or 7 Feb in Langkawi.
If they clear the clash with the third-tier side, they will then face either Kuantan FA or Spa Putrajaya FC in the Round of 16. The earliest that the LionsXII will face an MSL side will be in the semi-finals against possible opponents Selangor, Terengganu, Felda United, Perak or ATM.
Another possible opponent for the LionsXII in the semi-finals, one which would make for a tantalising clash for local fans, would be Malaysian Premier League side Johor Darul Takzim II featuring Singapore stalwarts Shahril Ishak and Baihakki Khaizan.
The LionsXII were beaten by Pahang in the second round of the FA Cup this year. Pahang eventually went on to win the FA Cup, as well as the Malaysia Cup. The defending champions will take on Johor Darul Takzim, featuring Singapore midfielder Hariss Harun, in the second round of the 2015 FA Cup, in a repeat of this year’s Malaysia Cup final.
The LionsXII have commenced preparations for the new Malaysian Super League season.
Head coach Fandi has added several new faces to the 26-strong squad including 23-year-old midfielder Izzdin Shafiq (from Home United), 25-year-old utility man Wahyudi Wahid (Hougang United), Courts Young Lions striker Sahil Suhaimi, who scored 10 goals in this season’s S.League, and 22-year-old winger Christopher van Huizen from Tampines Rovers.
